You may know him from his collaborations with man of the moment Wretch 32, as the sweet voice on ‘Don’t Go’. Which Josh re-worked with Wretch 32, leading to a #1 single!

He’s graced the stages of Glastonbury and V, as well as ‘Later With Jools Holland’ and Radio One’s Live Lounge. AND can been see supporting our own #LillyLoves Delilah on her April tour!

So I had to have ‘A Moment with Josh’!

What music are you listening to at the moment?

I am currently listening to a couple of albums over and over again. One album that I can’t get enough of is the Ben Howard album ‘Every Kingdom’. I have also got the SBRTKT album on repeat.

When you’re not writing/making music, what are you doing?

When I do get a bit of time off which is not that often, I enjoy a little game of cards with my mates

What is your biggest vice?

lying in Q&A’s (Hopefully he hasn’t lied to us)

Last time you cried?

I can’t actually remember but I have been told that I had a tear or two when i played at V festival. I swear it was sweat!

When was the last time you were embarrassed?

I played at Wakestock last summer and its one performance I will never forget. I played ‘Don’t go’ to 4000 people to find out at the end that the microphone wasn’t on.

What do you Love?

Camden.

What’s your most treasured possession?

It would have to be my new Gibson guitar!

Describe your style?

Worn.

The best book you’ve read?

It would have to be Shantaram, check it out!

The best and worst thing about going on tour?

The best thing on tour is getting on stage and being able to perform to different people every night. The worst thing is the traveling.

Who inspires you?

Ben Howard.

He has just released a 10 track mixtape of album worthy tracks called ‘Those Who Wait’ . The mix tape contains favourites from his now legendary live sets, 8 new recordings including a collaboration with Marsha Ambrosius.

We caught up with Daley to talk working with Wretch 32, being a perfectionist and the love of his life………

When you are not making music what are you doing?

I’m listening to music or eating or cooking. I have a sweet tooth so I sometimes eat dessert first.

Who are you listening to right now?

I’m actually listening to a bit of Kate Bush that I was recommended for a while, and I’ve only just got round to listening to a bit of that. I’m listening to Jill Scott’s new album which is great, she’s very real. I’m listening to Wretch’s album, not just cause I’m on it, but I’m genuinely really excited about that. I think it’s a really good album, one of the best this year.

What’s your biggest vice?

My biggest vice is being a perfectionist and never being quite happy with anything, that’s why my music takes so long. Music is my main one but I also have a background in Art design, and Art direction and that is the same. With my music I had a lot of the stuff written and recorded, but I was so picky about the sound of production and getting everything sounding right. I have to be able to listen to it without going “oh I don’t like that”.

Have you found it hard to adjust?

Because I’ve been doing everything by myself for 4 years before I was signed, and I don’t really want to let it go. When you give things to other people you have that “oh its not how I want it” moment. I’m still overseeing everything at the moment and I hope that doesn’t change.

When was the last time you cried?

It was actually when Amy Winehouse died which is surprising. I’ve always been a fan of her as a musician, the first two albums are two of my favorite albums ever, but I never considered myself to be that emotionally involved with her, I was more into her music but yeah, after if happened I was really sad, and I started playing her music again, and one song came on, a demo she did and it was involuntary tears, I just started crying.

Last time you were been embarrassed?

I’ve not had that many embarrassing moments in my career. I guess the closest I’ve come would be when I was supporting Angie Stone at the Jazz Café and she was having a sort of jam session and this manager basically dragged me down stairs, and I hadn’t even met Angie Stone yet and she pushed me on stage. Angie Stone is amazing at freestyling and we were freeestyling and my brain just froze at one point and I handed back the mic cause she’s just amazing. That wasn’t embarrassing because being on stage with her was amazing, but it was abit like wow, you know?

What do you love?

I love my cat Simba, I’ve had him for nine years and he is in Manchester

Best book you’ve ever read?

It’s the only and best, Lord of the Flies, I read it in school. I wish I read more. I really really want to read more books but I always fall asleep after 4 or 5 pages

What’s your biggest regret?

Not taking the move to come to London and do music quicker. Although I believe everything happens for a reason and I’m really happy with where I am now. I didn’t believe I could do it till later on but maybe I wish I had a bit more belief in myself early on.

How would you like to be remembered?

I’d like to be remembered as a honest songwriter and someone who was able to describe the emotion of a situation in a song, writing songs people relate to and that mean something to them.

What can we expect on the album?

The album is going to be 10x more amazing and stressful. Expect a extension of the mix tape, more good music, just something exciting sonically, and hopefully it will show another side to me as a musician and a songwriter. I want to take it up a level and do something people aren’t expecting. I’d love to have something with Wretch and there is another female artist I can’t say at the moment, but I really like her to be on the album so hopefully that happens!
